Ascendant on the Small Screen?

The final instalment of the Divergent series may be turned into a TV series, instead of a movie like the previous three parts. When Divergent first came out, ratings were great and viewers loved the adaptation, but when Insurgent hit the big screen, people had lost interest meaning when Allegiant hit cinemas earlier this year, it's safe to say it flopped. Wanting to make as much money as possible by splitting the final book (Allegiant) into two movies may have been a bad move for the production company, since they're now considering other options for the final instalment.

Kevin Beggs, TV Group Chair of Lionsgate confirmed this news in a recent interview with Variety

The performance of the last segment of the theatrical didn’t really create a situation where we could commit the production resources necessary to really make the production we needed…We got excited about the possibility of what the series could look like — resolving the novel in a season across 10 to 13 episodes and then expanding from there into multiple seasons…This is an example of what we call the virtuous cycle of content bouncing back and forth from TV and film. The economic upside on a long term series franchise is very substantial.

The cast and even Veronica Roth are reportedly very surprised by this announcement. What do you think? Will the final instalment make a good TV series? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
