3 Heroines I Would Love To Slap

A painful part of being a reader is coming across a main character and hating their guts. No matter how hard you try you just can’t get over their constant need for attention, their unsubtle attempts at flirting or their so-called witty sarcasm. In fact sometimes you just can’t tolerate the character at all and have to deal with their irksome antics for 300/400/500+ pages, biting your lip in an attempt not to shout out in frustration. These characters can ruin a whole book for you.

Even worse, however, is hating the main character in a series you love. Everything about that character may annoy you, but there is nothing you can do. You are too loyal to the world and all of the other characters to stop reading, so you suffer in silence…… Or at least try to.

I have come across many series’ with annoying heroines, more so than annoying heroes. However, only three heroines have irritated me beyond belief. Please do not hate me for my top three.

1.       Clary Fray: The heroine from the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare, has consistently annoyed me throughout the series. That saying I am only going onto the fifth book, yet during each of the first four books I found her insufferably irritating and self-obsessed. I love this series. I absolutely adore Magnus and Alec (Malec!), and many of the other characters and it is only for them I have continued reading the series. I just can’t ignore the great dislike I have for her.

2.       Morgan Rowlands: Morgan Rowlands is the heroine in the Sweep series by Cate Tiernan. This girl is infuriating. She is immature, prudish and in my opinion quite passive. I read the first book and utterly hated it. I reviewed it on Goodreads straight after finishing it, saying it had some redeeming qualities. Only now, after really thinking it through do I see how bad it actually was. I didn’t like it one bit and Morgan was mostly the reason why.

3.       Zoey Redbird: Zoey from the House of Night series by P.C and Kristen Cast is the final heroine I would love to slap. Zoey continues to get more self-obsessed and irresponsible as the series goes on. She does not learn from past experiences and continues to lie and keep secrets from her friends even though she knows it can only end badly. I do like Zoey, I just think she needs a reality check.

These are the top 3 heroines I would love to slap. Please respect my opinion and I would love to hear everyone else’s. ;)
