Will Grayson, Will Grayson by David Levithan & John Green
Will Grayson, Will Grayson is a book written by both John Green and David Levithan. With alternating chapters, the story is about two different characters, both named Will Grayson who don't know the other exists until an unexpected meeting in a porn store. We learn about each Will Grayson in turn and the ways their stories intertwine with one another.
I really enjoyed reading this book and I sped through it in just two sittings. John Green's Will Grayson was probably my favourite character, but I loved them all, especially the vibrant Tiny. I haven't read a great deal of LGBT books before and this one had the gay characters as protagonists, but it wasn't overpowering of the message of the book itself, which I enjoyed. The fact that some characters were gay was just a natural addition to the story line, rather than the main event.
I did find the fact that David Levithan's chapters were all written in lowercase quite annoying at first but after a while, I hardly noticed it at all and it was a good way to distinguish between the two at the beginning as well as describing Will himself (you'll know what I mean if you read the discussion between the two authors at the back of the book.) Overall, I really enjoyed Will Grayson, Will Grayson, it made me laugh, it made me sad, but generally it was a really good read.
