Victoria Schwab's A Darker Shade of Magic is headed to the big screen. The unusual and compelling fantasy was nabbed by Lin Pictures recently, who have Dan Lin set to produce the film, with Jonathon Eirich and Mark Bauch overseeing development.
V.E. (Victoria) Schwab rose to fame in 2013 with her bestselling novel Vicious¸ which was described by The Guardian as, "a brilliant exploration of the superhero mythos and a riveting revenge thriller". Later, the film rights were picked up by Ridley Scott's Scott Free and Story Mining & Supply Co.
A Darker Shade of Magic is "smart, funny and sexy", as described by The Independent, a unique story about London, parallel universes, and magic.
"Most people only know one London; but what if there were several? Kell is one of the last Travelers magicians with a rare ability to travel between parallel Londons. There is Grey London, dirty and crowded and without magic, home to the mad king George III. There is Red London, where life and magic are revered. Then, White London, ruled by whoever has murdered their way to the throne. But once upon a time, there was Black London..."
Lin Productions has also worked on the Warner Bros.' animation, The Lego Movie, and are currently developing its sequel, Sherlock Holmes, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, and Josh Brolin's Gangster Squad.
As a talented writer and a successful film production come together, it's safe to say fantasy and book lovers will be waiting in eager anticipation for this release.
