The author of Thirteen Reasons Why has been expelled from a prominent writers society after claims of violating the harassment code of the group. The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators released a statement saying that Asher is no longer welcome as a member, faculty or speaker, to which Asher told BuzzFeed that he felt he had been "thrown under the bus" since he was told that the original investigation into the allegations "showed nothing."
He also stated: “The truth is that I had been harassed by these people for close to 10 years,” he added, of the anonymous complainants who reported him to the SCBWI. “And I just could not deal with it any more.”
A Netflix spokesperson spoke to EW regarding the news and said: “Jay Asher was not involved in the second season of 13 Reasons Why. The upcoming season will not be impacted in any way.” Thank goodness for that, I, personally, cannot wait for season two of Thirteen Reasons Why! Will you be watching?
