Gossip Girl has been a favourite TV show of mine since its pilot aired in 2007. Gossip Girl is an American teen drama set in the glamorous Upper East Side, Manhattan and follows the lives of Serena Van Der Woodsen, Blair Waldorf, Chuck Bass, Nate Archibald, Dan Humphrey and their friends and family. The teenagers are young, privileged socialites who attend a prestigious private school where an extremely popular website called "Gossip Girl" exists. Gossip Girl is an all-hearing all-seeing gossip queen who reports on all the latest scandals & drama from behind a computer screen and most importantly - keeps her identity a secret.
Throughout six series, the amount of scandal and dramatic events are enough to keep any viewer watching episode after episode. The teenagers grow as the series does and they move from private school students into the world of work - though they don't lose their privileged socialite status or their love for gossip and scandal.
Gossip Girl's characters are extremely well-developed throughout the whole series and I grew to love each and every one of them by the finale. As well as the main characters listed above, there are also a wide range of side characters appearing throughout the series who add value and depth to the show. One of the main aspects of Gossip Girl is the namesake - an aspect which was kept a secret until the very end and it was a genuine shock to me once it was revealed. If you haven't yet seen the series, I strongly recommend that you keep Gossip Girl spoiler-free and stay away from anything which will reveal the secret as it's much better appreciated that way.
As a teenage girl, I loved every aspect of this show. The wardrobes were impeccable, the characters were lovable and their relationships were highly coveted by teenagers everywhere. I would highly recommend watching this series from the beginning and in the meantime, I'll be re-watching this show for a long time in the future. Watch the first episode, I promise you will be hooked.
