Nashville is one of my favourite shows of the last couple of years and had me hooked right from the first episode. This ABC drama follows two rival country music stars - 'queen of country' Rayna James (Connie Britton) and young starlet Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere) – as well as those living alongside them in Nashville.

Set against the beautiful backdrop of the South with a host of lovable and sassy characters (plus a whole lot of drama!), Nashville explores the country music industry and showcases a talented cast of actors and musicians.

There’s no denying that Nashville is full of high drama storylines, sending it’s characters on a rollercoaster ride with the ups and downs of both seeking and trying to hold on to success in the industry. If you’re a fan of the dramatic storylines of shows such as Grey’s Anatomy and Pretty Little Liars then there’s a good chance you’ll enjoy this aspect of Nashville too.

Drama aside, another important aspect of the show is of course the music. The combination of a genuinely talented cast and great songwriters (often local to the area of Nashville itself) make the show’s original soundtrack, full of catchy country numbers, credible. Whilst sometimes film/TV soundtracks can be a little cheesy, several songs from Nashville have gone on to do well in the charts and on iTunes, proving that all of the work on this aspect behind the scenes has been just as important and key to the show’s success as the performances on screen.

The storylines and songs of Nashville are both addictive and enjoyable, but are also grounded by the lovable characters whose success you’ll be rooting for. If you love a bit of country music and all things drama this one is definitely for you - get ready to set aside some time for a TV marathon!
